Alexandra Rose Raisman Bio

Alexandra Rose Raisman, born May 25, 1994, is an American retired gymnast who was an artistic. She has also been twice Olympian. She was captain of the 2012 "Fierce Five" as well as the 2016 "Final Five," U.S. women’s Olympic gymnastics team. She was awarded gold in the team competitions at the 2016 Olympics. Gabby Douglas as her teammate also took home gold. Raisman was also awarded silver medals in the individual all-around and floor exercises. Raisman also received silver medals in the individual all around and for floor exercise. She is also two times a national champion in floor exercise (2012 and 2015) as well as the 2012 champion of the national championship in balance beam. She's also a five-time national champion in all-around competitions at national championships (silver bronze, silver 2011, 2012 and the year 2015). In 2013 she was inducted into the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Raisman was born on the 25th of May, 1994 in the Boston suburb of Needham, Massachusetts, to Lynn (nee Faber), the former high school gymnast and Rick Raisman. She has three younger siblings, Madison, Chloe and Brett. Raisman is Jewish, and has said, "I take a lot of pride in being able to not only represent the U.S.A as well as the Jewish community all over the world. Raisman started gymnastics at the age of 18 months old. She credits her first love for gymnastics to the "Magnificent Seven", the gold-medal winning U.S. women's team at the 1996 Summer Olympics and whose performance she observed on VHS.She participated in Exxcel Gymnastics and Climbing through Level 8, after which she moved to Brestyan's American Gymnastics Club under coaches Mihai and Silvia Brestyan. Raisman completed her studies at Needham High School, 2012, after finishing her senior year online classes and training for the Olympics.
